As a rule, bonded coating, which are used in the automotive sector, and thickening agents in lubricants, which are typically made of “metal soap”, are crude oil based. This dependency is supposed to change within the developments of new, particularly environmentally friendly bioproducts. The project partners of the BMBF-funded project “PHAt” develop thickening agents based on biotechnologically produced PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate). The project kicked off at the end of 2017 and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with approx. 1.25 mio. EUR for the next three years. Its consortium combines industrial and scientific expertise.
