Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP
The Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP works on innovative solutions in the fields of vacuum coating, surface treatment and organic semiconductors. The fields’ core competencies are electron beam technology, plasma-assisted large area and precision coating, roll-to-roll technologies, development of technological key components as well as technologies for organic electronics and IC/system design.
Fraunhofer FEP thus offers a broad spectrum of research, development and pilot manufacturing capabilities, especially for treatment, sterilization, structuring and finishing of surfaces as well as for OLED microdisplays, organic and inorganic sensors, optical filters and flexible OLED lighting. This broad know-how is increasingly being used for medical technology and biotechnology.
Core technologies can be used to apply biofunctional coatings to surfaces or to make targeted changes to surface properties, for example to increase compatibility for the biological environment (biocompatibility) of implants. The treatment of medical technology products with low-energy electrons has also proven to be an effective tool for germ reduction and sterilization of packaging, implants, medical devices and treatment of liquids.
Our goal is to tap the innovation potential of electron beam, plasma technology and organic electronics for novel biotechnological production processes and make it available to our customers.
