European Bioplastics e.V.
European Bioplastics (EUBP) is the industry association representing the bioplastics industry in Europe across the entire value chain. EUBP was founded more than 20 years ago and has over 70 member companies from around the world today.
EUBP members primarily produce, refine and distribute bioplastics, i.e., plastics that are bio-based, biodegradable or both. In addition, biomass feedstock producers, processors and compounders of bioplastics, as well as several renowned academic and private research institutions are members of EUBP.
The association’s main objectives are to serve as a contact and networking platform, a primary source of information about the bioplastics industry, and an impetus to advance the goals of the growing bioplastics industry as a whole.
EUBP coordinates various Working Groups (WG) and Product Groups (PG) focused on these issues, such as the PG Bio-based, PG Biodegradables, the WG Regulatory Affairs, and the WG Communications, and actively supports the implementation (e.g. CEN TC 249 and 411) and monitoring (e.g. EN 13432) of industry standards and best practices. As part of this commitment, EUBP has introduced the Seedling® logo, a mark of conformity based on EN 13432 for the industrial compostability of biodegradable plastic packaging.
EUBP is increasingly taking a position on policy processes related to the promotion of the circular economy and bioeconomy in Europe and legislation that impact the ability of the bioplastics industry to fully realize its innovative potential.
EUBP is a registered association in Germany, classified as an SME and based on membership. EUBP currently has <10 staff members representing a very broad range of expertise and backgrounds, ranging from polymer chemistry, economics, political and social sciences to experienced communications and PR specialists.
This mix of diverse and relevant expertise, the international network that has grown over decades, and the range of topics that EUBP staff cover in their daily work make EUBP a suitable partner for all projects and collaborations related to the circular economy or bioeconomy and the handling of biobased materials.
