European Bioplastics e.V.

European Bioplastics (EUBP) is the industry asso­ci­ation rep­res­ent­ing the bioplastics industry in Europe across the entire value chain. EUBP was foun­ded more than 20 years ago and has over 70 mem­ber com­pan­ies from around the world today.

EUBP mem­bers primar­ily pro­duce, refine and dis­trib­ute bioplastics, i.e., plastics that are bio-based, bio­de­grad­able or both. In addi­tion, bio­mass feed­stock pro­du­cers, pro­cessors and com­pound­ers of bioplastics, as well as sev­er­al renowned aca­dem­ic and private research insti­tu­tions are mem­bers of EUBP.

The asso­ci­ation’s main object­ives are to serve as a con­tact and net­work­ing plat­form, a primary source of inform­a­tion about the bioplastics industry, and an impetus to advance the goals of the grow­ing bioplastics industry as a whole.

EUBP coordin­ates vari­ous Work­ing Groups (WG) and Product Groups (PG) focused on these issues, such as the PG Bio-based, PG Bio­de­grad­ables, the WG Reg­u­lat­ory Affairs, and the WG Com­mu­nic­a­tions, and act­ively sup­ports the imple­ment­a­tion (e.g. CEN TC 249 and 411) and mon­it­or­ing (e.g. EN 13432) of industry stand­ards and best prac­tices. As part of this com­mit­ment, EUBP has intro­duced the Seed­ling® logo, a mark of con­form­ity based on EN 13432 for the indus­tri­al com­posta­bil­ity of bio­de­grad­able plastic packaging.

EUBP is increas­ingly tak­ing a pos­i­tion on policy pro­cesses related to the pro­mo­tion of the cir­cu­lar eco­nomy and bioeconomy in Europe and legis­la­tion that impact the abil­ity of the bioplastics industry to fully real­ize its innov­at­ive potential.

EUBP is a registered asso­ci­ation in Ger­many, clas­si­fied as an SME and based on mem­ber­ship. EUBP cur­rently has <10 staff mem­bers rep­res­ent­ing a very broad range of expert­ise and back­grounds, ran­ging from poly­mer chem­istry, eco­nom­ics, polit­ic­al and social sci­ences to exper­i­enced com­mu­nic­a­tions and PR specialists.

This mix of diverse and rel­ev­ant expert­ise, the inter­na­tion­al net­work that has grown over dec­ades, and the range of top­ics that EUBP staff cov­er in their daily work make EUBP a suit­able part­ner for all pro­jects and col­lab­or­a­tions related to the cir­cu­lar eco­nomy or bioeconomy and the hand­ling of biobased materials.
