Following 8 years of work, the team of ANiMOX GmbH, located in the technology park WISTA in Berlin Adlershof, presents a mature, low-energy and zero-waste process that processes the basic components of proteinaceous byproducts from food production for high value-added material use.
The protein hydrolysates (mixtures of peptides and amino acids), with defined molecule sizes adjusted by the process, are suitable, for example, as scavengers of carcinogenic formaldehyde in binders, stabilizers in fire extinguishing foams or hydrophilic components in industrial surfactants. They can be crosslinked to form mulch films, molded bodies or protein filaments and are inexpensive fermentation substrates (nitrogen sources) for the cultivation of microorganisms — comparable in their properties to commercially available peptones.
