TU Dresden — Institute of Natural Materials Technology — Professorship Paper Technology
The paper industry in Germany is No. 1 in Europe and, in a global comparison, No. 4 behind the USA, China and Japan. With sales of around 14.4 billion euros and an annual production of 23.2 million tons (2010), a total of around 3,000 different types of paper are produced. The industry employs more than 41,000 people at around 165 production sites in Germany.
The professorship for paper technology is one of two professorships of the Institute of Natural Materials Technology at TU Dresden. The Institute currently employs 35 people, 15 of whom work at the Chair of Paper Technology, including the holder of the chair, Prof. H. Großmann. The scientific project work is carried out by a total of 10 scientific employees and a secretary.
The current research projects of the Chair of Paper Technology are mainly focused on the following three main areas:
Resource conservation (saving energy and raw materials in stock preparation and paper production),
Use of high-power ultrasound,
Evaluation and modification of surfaces of graphic papers.
