There are three research sub­jects at the insti­tute of organ­ic chemistry:

DNA hybrid mater­i­als: Syn­thes­is of arti­fi­cial func­tion­al nuc­le­os­ides with spe­cial redox prop­er­ties or met­al-coordin­at­ing sites for the con­struc­tion of new nano­scop­ic mater­i­als and machines.

DNA dam­age and repair: Syn­thes­is of DNA lesions and lesion ana­logues, incor­por­a­tion into DNA strands and invest­ig­a­tion of the struc­ture (x‑ray, enzymat­ic diges­tion) and bio­lo­gic­al fate (repair exper­i­ments, muta­gen­i­city) of the dam­aged oligonucleotides.

tRNA modi­fic­a­tions: Total syn­thes­is of nat­ur­al mod­i­fied RNA nuc­le­os­ides, incor­por­a­tion into RNA strands and invest­ig­a­tion of the struc­ture (x‑ray, enzymat­ic diges­tion) as well as bio­lo­gic­al function.
