The Clariant Biotech & Renewables Center develops solutions for biocatalysis and biorefinery. The innovation focus here is on the energy-efficient and resource-saving development and production of bio-based chemicals and fuels. Clariant has developed a process that uses enzymatic hydrolysis followed by fermentation to produce second-generation bioethanol, so-called cellulosic ethanol, from wheat straw or other agricultural residues.
Germany is the Group’s largest research and production platform worldwide. A total of around 5,300 employees work here for the German Clariant companies, including Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH as the largest. Clariant manufactures a wide range of chemical specialties at 18 sites in Germany, comprising several thousand individual products. They play a crucial role in customers’ manufacturing and processing operations or add value to their end products.
