What are the oppor­tun­it­ies and con­straints of cas­cad­ing use of biomass?

The sur­vey is part of the pro­ject ​“Increas­ing resource effi­ciency by cas­cad­ing use of bio­mass – from the­ory to prac­tice“ on behalf of the Ger­man Fed­er­al Envir­on­ment­al Agency (Umwelt­bundes­amt, UBA) and fun­ded by the Ger­man Fed­er­al Min­istry for the Envir­on­ment, Nature Con­ser­va­tion, Build­ing and Nuc­le­ar Safety (BMUB). The pro­ject aims to identi­fy and elab­or­ate poten­tials of cas­cad­ing use of sev­er­al bio-based raw mater­i­als. On the one hand, factors of suc­cess and fail­ure are ana­lysed based on prac­tic­al examples from industry. On the oth­er hand, the eco­lo­gic­al pref­er­ences of cas­cad­ing use of bio­mass are examined in detail. The res­ults will provide new insights and argu­ments, which will help decision makers to design tar­get-ori­ented policies and instru­ments to sup­port cas­cad­ing use of bio­mass. The online sur­vey aims to eval­u­ate bar­ri­ers, risks and threats for the cas­cad­ing use of bio­mass in the respect­ive busi­ness envir­on­ments of the respond­ents.
