Lead­ing con­fer­ence on fuels, chem­ic­als and poly­mers from CO2 util­iz­a­tion in Cologne: Big vis­ions – and real potential

In recent years, the first com­mer­cial pro­duc­tion of CO₂-based poly­mers has been launched, sev­er­al addi­tion­al tech­no­lo­gies have pro­gressed so far to allow pro­duc­tion on an indus­tri­al scale in the near future — with advanced bio­tech­no­logy and chem­ic­al cata­lys­is. At the same time renew­able energy from sol­ar, wind and hydro is becom­ing cheap­er each year. The latest plants at favour­able loc­a­tions are already at the same price level as fossil energy sources and even below. A per­fect situ­ation for com­bin­ing cheap and abund­ant renew­ables with car­bon util­iz­a­tion to store energy, to pro­duce renew­able fuels and chem­ic­als. Renew­able energy and CCU will reshape the energy sys­tem of the future and the chem­ic­al industry, too. At the ​“5^th Con­fer­ence on Car­bon Diox­ide as Feed­stock for Fuels, Chem­istry and Poly­mers” lead­ing play­ers will show­case enhanced and new applic­a­tions using CO₂ as feed­stock. The con­fer­ence will fea­ture a mix­ture of key­note speak­ers, oral present­a­tions, poster present­a­tions and an exhib­i­tion. After four very suc­cess­ful years in Essen, the con­fer­ence moves to a new ven­ue in Cologne in 2016 to have room for growth: The organ­izer nova-Insti­tute expects more than 250 par­ti­cipants from 30 coun­tries and 20 exhib­it­ors and offers pro­fes­sion­al match mak­ing tools for effi­cient net­work­ing between the experts from industry, policy and research. Three months before the event, 60 par­ti­cipants have already registered. The first ten exhib­i­tion booths (6 sqm) are free for registered par­ti­cipants. The con­fer­ence is under the pat­ron­age of Svenja Schulze, Min­is­ter of Innov­a­tion, Sci­ence and Research of the Ger­man State of North Rhine-West­phalia. A short pro­gramme overview

The con­fer­ence will start with the ses­sion ​“Policy and Vis­ions”. Speak­ers from Cli­mate KIC (EU), Cov­estro (DE), World Coun­cil on Indus­tri­al Bio­tech­no­logy (CH), SCOT-Pro­ject (NL) and Uni­ver­sity of Shef­field (UK) will share and dis­cuss their vis­ions with the audi­ence. Addi­tion­al speak­ers from the European Com­mis­sion, Fed­er­al Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Research (DE) and the sol­ar industry are invited. The ses­sion ​“Arti­fi­cial Pho­to­syn­thes­is & H2 Gen­er­a­tion” will show the latest devel­op­ments in these cru­cial tech­no­lo­gies for CCU. Speak­ers from Uppsala Uni­ver­sity (SE) and Evonik (DE) have con­firmed their present­a­tions. On the second day, the ses­sion ​“CO₂-based Chem­ic­als & Poly­mers” will show first imple­ment­a­tion of CO₂-based poly­mer pro­duc­tion and what’s com­ing up next. Speak­ers rep­res­ent among oth­ers Kiverdi (US), Phytonix (US), VITO (BE) and Cov­estro (DE). The con­fer­ence will con­clude with a ses­sion on ​“CO₂-based Fuels” for avi­ation and auto­mot­ive. In the last two years, impress­ive tech­no­lo­gic­al improve­ments were made and entered the mar­ket.
