Bioplastics – driv­ing a resource effi­cient Europe

The 2014 European Bioplastics Con­fer­ence has an excit­ing and inform­at­ive pro­gramme to offer. More than 30 speak­ers will be cov­er­ing aspects of the bioplastics mar­ket related to this year’s main theme, ​“Driv­ing a resource effi­cient Europe”. Speak­ers includ­ing Helmut Maurer (European Com­mis­sion, DG Envir­on­ment), and Vir­gin­ia Janssen (EUROPEN) will be provid­ing insights into the legis­lat­ive land­scape for bioplastics in the European Uni­on in a series of key speeches and a ses­sion focus­sing on the EU policy land­scape. European Bioplastics will share its vis­ion for the European bioplastics industry and present new data on the mar­ket devel­op­ment. ​“Which new renew­able feed­stock is rel­ev­ant for our mar­ket?” is the one of the ques­tions taken up in this year’s pro­gramme. The ses­sion cov­ers per­spect­ives from research insti­tu­tions and com­pan­ies on upcom­ing or cur­rently in use 2^nd and 3^rd gen­er­a­tion renew­able feed­stock. Anoth­er high­light is the pan­el dis­cus­sion on biobased labelling. The pan­el­lists rep­res­ent­ing all the rel­ev­ant bioplastic regions world­wide include Ron Buck­halt (US Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture, BioPreferred Pro­gram), Dr. Oliv­er Ehlert (DIN CERTCO), Isao Ino­mata (Japan Bioplastics Asso­ci­ation) and Sal­vador Ortega (ANIPAC Mex­ico). The ses­sion will be led by Bruno de Wilde (OWS). The prop­erty of ​“being biobased” is fur­ther examined dur­ing a work­shop with the title of ​“How to cer­ti­fy biobased con­tent in bioplastics?” led by the sec­ret­ary of the CEN Work­ing Group 411, Har­men Wille­mse. With net­work­ing oppor­tun­it­ies and social high­lights, such as the large product exhib­i­tion, prac­tic­al online part­ner­ing and the 9^th Glob­al Bioplastics Awards cere­mony, this year’s European Bioplastics Con­fer­ence is set to live up to pre­vi­ous suc­cess­ful events organ­ised by European Bioplastics.
