Proteins are the most important functional carriers in nature. Protein Engineering & Design at the Chair of Biological Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich is used to construct novel active substances and molecular tools. The focus is on antibody engineering, development of anticalin technology, optimization of the duration of action of biopharmaceuticals by PASylation, enzyme engineering as well as method development in the field of protein engineering (including Strep-tag, tet(p/o), methods for folding optimization of recombinant proteins and targeted introduction of artificial amino acids). Our tools range from gene library synthesis and combinatorial methods to protein chemistry and spectroscopy, X‑ray structural analysis and molecular modeling.
