Pro­teins are the most import­ant func­tion­al car­ri­ers in nature. Pro­tein Engin­eer­ing & Design at the Chair of Bio­lo­gic­al Chem­istry at the Tech­nic­al Uni­ver­sity of Munich is used to con­struct nov­el act­ive sub­stances and molecu­lar tools. The focus is on anti­body engin­eer­ing, devel­op­ment of antic­al­in tech­no­logy, optim­iz­a­tion of the dur­a­tion of action of bio­phar­ma­ceut­ic­als by PASyla­tion, enzyme engin­eer­ing as well as meth­od devel­op­ment in the field of pro­tein engin­eer­ing (includ­ing Strep-tag, tet(p/o), meth­ods for fold­ing optim­iz­a­tion of recom­bin­ant pro­teins and tar­geted intro­duc­tion of arti­fi­cial amino acids). Our tools range from gene lib­rary syn­thes­is and com­bin­at­or­i­al meth­ods to pro­tein chem­istry and spec­tro­scopy, X‑ray struc­tur­al ana­lys­is and molecu­lar modeling.
