Karls­ruhe Insti­tute of Tech­no­logy — Insti­tute of Mech­an­ic­al Pro­cess Engin­eer­ing and Mech­an­ics (MVM)

The Insti­tute of Mech­an­ic­al Pro­cess Engin­eer­ing and Mech­an­ics com­bines three areas under one roof:

The Gas Particle Sys­tems (GPS) area is ded­ic­ated to the fun­da­ment­als and pro­cesses of gas-borne particle sys­tems. The focus is on pro­cesses for particle hand­ling and sep­ar­a­tion as well as meth­ods for the invest­ig­a­tion and adjust­ment of struc­tur­al and func­tion­al particle prop­er­ties down to nanoscale.

The Pro­cess Machinery (VM) area is ded­ic­ated to pro­cess engin­eer­ing machinery for integ­rated pro­cesses for puri­fic­a­tion, sep­ar­a­tion and struc­tur­ing of ultrafine particles. Lec­tures on appar­at­us engin­eer­ing, numer­ic­al flow sim­u­la­tion and basic oper­a­tions of mech­an­ic­al pro­cess engin­eer­ing are offered.

The area of Applied Mech­an­ics (AME) deals with the rhe­ology of com­plex flu­ids. On the one hand, this is used for the devel­op­ment of mod­ern pro­cessing and applic­a­tion meth­ods, and on the oth­er hand, the influ­ence of micro­scop­ic struc­tures and inter­ac­tions on mac­ro­scop­ic flow beha­vi­or is investigated.
