Eni/​Versalis

Versalis, Eni’s chemical company, has started the production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass in February 2022. After taking over four bio-focused companies from the Mossi & Ghisolfi group, Versalis undertook a complete overhaul of their biorefinery plant in Crescentino, Italy in 2018. Using the licensed PROESA^® technology, the biorefinery is now expected to process 20,000 tons of biomass p.a. to reach a maximum annual production capacity of 25,000 tons of bioethanol.
