KBBPPS — Knowledge Based Bio-based Products’ Pre-Standardization

1^st Advisory Workshop — What is the project about?

The KBBPPS project covers research and demonstration on bio-based carbon content determination, biomass content methods not solely dependent on ¹⁴C‑analysis and biodegradability and eco-toxicity test schemes. Next, identification and resolution of functionality related bottlenecks with the view to developing, harmonising and validating test methodologies will be undertaken. The possibilities for improving sample preparation, fractionation and thermal treatments will be studied in order to cover bio-based carbon and other bio-based elements’ determination. Next, practical solutions for stakeholders, lab and field tests on biodegradation or biologically derived elements will be investigated. The goal in the end is that the results can be directly implemented into European standards.

What is the workshop about?

This workshop is the first of overall three advisory workshops that will be held within the KBBPPS project. The events aim at including stakeholders and experts from science, industry, policy, certification bodies and consumer organisations who have a part in standardization processes in order to consider all perspectives and create the basis for truly horizontal standards of bio-based products. In this first workshop we will present the objectives and the scope of all work packages that form the project as well as the first steps that have been taken. Then we will enter an interactive discussion in which you are invited to share your views and your expertise on standardization of bio-based products.
