Industrial biotechnology is the technology using microorganisms or enzymes as tools in industrial processes. In the production of economic goods various biogenic, renewable raw materials may be used, e.g. plant or microbial materials. These can be converted into different products such as bioplastics, biofuels, food supplements or detergent.
Due to the economic and environmental benefits, biotechnological methods and products are already widespread in a variety of industries and areas of daily life.
