Dipl.-Ing. Birgit Lewandowski's professional career is characterized by the interdisciplinarity between engineering sciences, applied life sciences and sustainability.
She studied landscape ecology and landscape design at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna with a focus on hydraulic and power plant engineering in connection with river ecology. After graduation, she was entrusted with a major project as a contract assistant at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in the field of limnological preservation of evidence for the Freudenau power plant. Several years as an independent expert for environmental impact assessments, water quality investigations and hydrobiological or landscape-ecological-limnological reports and studies in Austria and Germany followed. In addition to her work as a consultant, Ms. Lewandowski has been active in the teaching and scientific support of limnology for postgraduates and students in the context of an international programme between Europe and Africa.
Following further education and professional activities in the fields of protein biochemistry, molecular biology and cell culture, Ms. Lewandowski began a long career at Fritzmeier Umwelttechnik GmbH & Co KG, where she became head of the biotechnology division. Building on many years of leadership and management experience in the field of industrial biotechnology, she has been working for Electrochaea GmbH as Head of Development since the beginning of 2020. With her strong interdisciplinary background, Ms. Lewandowski leads a team at Electrochaea of biologists, biotechnologists, process engineers and engineers. As strategic and scientific representative of the development team, she is responsible for building partnerships and developing commercial projects.
Since 2019, she has been on the board of the Förderverein Industrielle Biotechnologie Bayern e.V. and represents in particular the interests of SMEs.
