European Symposium on Biopolymers - ESBP2013

7-9th October 2013 | Lisbon, Portugal

We are delighted to welcome you to the European Symposium on Biopolymers - ESBP2013 in Lisbon, Portugal, on the 7-9 of October, 2013. ESBP is the most important European conference on biopolymers, an area where the significant R&D investment made in recent years is leading to significant advances in new products and applications, contributing substantially towards the sustainability of the polymer industry. This event, supported by the European Federation of Biotechnology, will bring together scientists, researchers and national and international industrial professionals to present and discuss the most recent advances in the area of biopolymers, as well as the main challenges and opportunities on-going within the industry. The main topics that will be addressed during the symposium are:

I-Biopolymer production

  • Natural biomass sources (plants, algae, single and mixed microbial cultures)
  • Metabolic and molecular engineering for biopolymer synthesis
  • Novel production routes and pathways
  • Optimization of production and extraction efficiency

II-Processing technologies and polymer stability

  • Polymer characterization
  • Technologies for the production of biopolymer-based products
  • Biopolymer derivatives, biodegradable polymer composites, nano-structures, structuring agents, etc
  • Polymer degradation

III-Applications of biopolymers and biodegradable polymers

  • Biopolymers in Medicine and Cosmetics
  • Applications in the Food industry
  • Other industrial applications

Annotation IBB: Our network member Biomer gives a speech on 9th October 9:30 to 10:30 about "PHB is a biopolymer, not a bioplast!"!
