The Fördervereins Industrielle Biotechnologie Bayern e.V. is pleased to welcome its first honorary member:
Dr. Dr. h.c. Christian Patermann
Director EU Commission (retired), Advisor
Christian Patermann is a lawyer. He studied in Germany, Switzerland and Spain and – after entering the federal service (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) – among others, he was working at the Federal Foreign Office, Embassy in Washington. After that time he was Private Secretary of the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Research, later, head of the Political Staff and Press Spokesman for the German Federal Minister Prof. Riesenhuber and at last Director-General. From 1996 he was Director at the European Commission in Brussels, initially responsible for Environment and Sustainability at DG Research, then for Agriculture, Forestry, Food and Biotechnology and responsible for the development of the bio-economy in Europe.
In 2007 he has retired and since that time he held many honorary offices and counseling activities, among others he is a member of the first German Bio-Economy Council, member of the Swiss Agricultural Research Council, Honorary Doctor of the University of Bonn and member of the oldest research academy in the life sciences in the world, the Georgofili Academy in Florence. Recently, he also honors the Förderverein Industrielle Biotechnologie e.V. with his membership.
